Anne Mason thinks she’ll be safe living in the Midwest building a wind farm. She may be dead wrong. Someone is dumping bodies in her corn field and telling Anne they are gifts—for her! As the body count rises, Anne realizes a cold-blooded serial killer is patiently waiting and watching her every move. And he won’t stop until he ends her life. It is clear there are no limits to this killer’s thirst for revenge or how far he will go to get it. Michael Brandt, the ruggedly handsome new County Prosecutor is the last person Anne can trust, but may offer her only chance at survival from a psychopathic killer. But will she survive the passion that rages between them?

I won't repeat what the other 1 star reviewers say because I agree. I'll add this, however: the use of "tense" is beyond terrible. In the middle of descriptive paragraphs, characters suddenly start thinking in present tense. Example: "With the addition of the note to the investigation, she was now more than a witness who found the body. She played an integral role in the investigation. Any information flow from this point forward had to be one-way, and from her. S***. Talk about a complication. A prosecutor can't have a relationship with someone this close to a case. ..." "CAN'T" is terribly wrong. This type of thing is done numerous times throughout the book.

There are so many inconsistencies and unbelievable behaviors. How is it that Anne and Michael end up living so close to each other when they reach move 2 hours away? The whole thing with the ex-husband doesn't even fit the novel. No one ever discovers the bug on Anne's computer - and didn't she have a computer business? The wind farm - doesn't seem to fit the story. Lots of bits and pieces. Nothing flows.

Don't pay for this book. I'm glad it was free. Won't waste my time being irritated with the next book.

Deadly Offerings Volume 1 Alexa Grace 9781470036553 Books Reviews

I really wanted to like this book, I just didn't. The storyline was okay, but the romance made no sense. First, it was one of those he falls in love at first sight and even though she really doesn't treat him very well it doesn't matter. He's over the top protective instantly, and if a guy showed up that many times in just the right time/place I would start to think he was a stalker. But the thing that drove me absolutely crazy was that she took independent to a whole new level. I'm all for independent women, I think you should be able to stand on your own two feet. However, when you know you are a target for a killer and you have no alarm system, flimsy locks on your house and you are alone you might want to accept some help. I'm glad this book was free.
The premise of the story had potential, but the continual stretch of the disbelief cord and disjointed plot elements made this a tough slog.

What are the chances that you would randomly catch the eye if some guy in a bar, that he would be in the parking lot at exactly the moment you were going to get attacked and that the next morning at the courthouse, you would literally run into him when you snuck into an employee's lounge area? Oh yes, and he just happens to be your soon to be ex-husband's attorney.

If you are still willing to go along with this, then add in that he also just happens to be on the scene when she is carjacked AND that when you inherit a farm two hours away, it turns out that the hero had purchased the adjacent property a couple of months ago AND guess who is the district attorney in the county where you have moved to?

I liked the yummy description of how cute the Hero was, but the poor guy was no brain surgeon. Putting a dead bolt on the front door but not the back was one of several things that caused eye-rolling. The worst one was later in the story.

Not sure about all the time spent on the wind technology element which turned out to have nothing to do with advancing the plot or involving relevant characters. The scene with the heroine been lauded for her fifth grade analysis of wind technology was laughable. I'm not sure whether it was an insult to the heroine or perhaps to the IQ of the readers.

When I saw the ratings for this, I ordered the book, only to realize it was already on my ereader. I had started it and stopped many months ago. Now I know why.
Wow. Either I am too picky or other readers aren't picky enough. Has this book really been reviewed by 1900 readers with such high ratings?? This book was amateurishly written. Example in describing the man who tried to kidnap the heroine, the author said something like, "The man wore a stocking mask and gloves. There were no fingerprints, because he wore gloves." Really. There was an interminable section where two secondary characters flirted and teased each other while they were supposed to be watching the heroine's house to prevent the killer taking her; if the author was trying to slow down the action, she really succeeded. At the end, the bad guy is killed and these same two secondary characters are involved in what seemed like an unfunny Laurel & Hardy-type comedy routine involving cellar stairs, though to what purpose, I still don't know. To show us they're attracted to each other? The secondary heroine is in the hospital and wakes to find the secondary hero asleep, sitting in the chair next to her bed, holding her hand, and she's so amazed that this big, strong man can hold her hand so gently (remember, he's asleep; can people sleep and still grip hard??). The hero is really worried about the heroine living in the house with bad locks on the door, so he brings and installs a new lock...on one door. Of course, the bad guy gets into the house through the other door, then the hero agonizes about why he only replaced one lock. Duh. The hero finds that the heroine has fled to Savannah and he follows her and stands around in the historic district watching the hordes of tourists until he sees her...what are the chances? The prosecutor and special prosecutor don't ask to see the FBI agent's ID? Do local law enforcement agencies just accept interference by the FBI without asking for it? Wouldn't the sheriff's office seek help first from State Police? Would the FBI get involved in a case that doesn't cross state lines? It's been a long time since I lived on a farm, but I find it very hard to believe people can move silently through a cornfield that's soon to be harvested (think of Mel Gibson running through the cornfield in Signs...makes a LOT of noise) and I think corn would be harvested before September/October in northern Indiana. I much prefer Toni Anderson's Cold Justice series; if you haven't read those books, I urge you to do so. See how a real action/suspense/romance is written. (No. I do not know and am not related to Ms. Anderson.) Sorry, Ms. Grace, I don't see myself reading any more of your books.
